The Worst Plastic Pellet Spill On Earth: Hong Kong
What is a nurdle? A pre-production pellet. If you’re going to make a Coke bottle, you order nurdles, add a bunch of nasty plasticizers— chemical additives that give a plastic product its performance characteristics— like flexible or rigid, etc. Nurdles are a little bit bigger than a BB and like transporting a handful of BBs, they tend to spill.
A month ago, I was at sea with Hong Kong dwelling, Australian activist, Tracey Read. She showed the crew her local beach which she has made her mission in life to clean. This beach in Hong Kong is amongst the most plastic polluted of any we’ve ever seen. So much plastic washes up here one can hardly see the sand, and even after a thorough beach cleanup, it’s entirely polluted again within a couple of weeks.

Cheap food is an illusion. There is no such thing. The real cost of the food is paid somewhere. If it’s not charged at the cash register, it’s charged to the environment, it’s charged to the people in the form of subsidies, or it’s charged to your health. In the end you get what you pay for.

Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money. ~Cree Indian Proverb

I wish this wasn’t true, however I think we are dangerously close to finding out this is true.
